Solution
Responsible use of information means handling data and content fairly and lawfully, and not spreading false information. Critical thinking is needed because misinformation and fake news can cause social unrest, and because many sources have an agenda or bias.
How critical thinking helps:
- Question the source: Recognize whether a post or email is genuine. Phishing often looks like a bank message; over of phishing attacks use email. Verify before clicking.
- Check facts: During COVID-19, false claims about the virus and vaccines spread on social media. Critically evaluating those claims reduces confusion and fear.
- Respect copyright: Do not copy articles without citation. Attribute ideas to avoid plagiarism.
- Share data carefully: Give personal details only on secure, verified sites (for example a scholarship form).
- Report harm: Suspicious activity and cyber crime can be reported to NR3C-FIA (https://www.nr3c.gov.pk).
These skills support digital citizenship: respectful communication, privacy, and a safer online environment.
