Terms of Use (also Terms and Conditions or Terms of Service) are legal agreements that say how a service may be used. Common clauses protect both the provider and the user.
User obligations: What the user must do. Careem may require a valid phone number and forbid using the app for non-transport purposes. This protects the company from misuse and makes expectations clear to the user.
Limitations of liability: Limits the provider's liability if something goes wrong. If an online banking app is down, the bank's terms typically limit liability for that disruption.
Privacy and data use: How the company collects, uses, and protects data. WhatsApp terms describe how messages are stored and protected, supporting the user's right to privacy.
Intellectual property rights: Protect logos, software, and other content. A news site may forbid copying articles without permission.
Termination of service: When the provider can end access. Facebook may suspend accounts that spread hate speech or misinformation.
Together these clauses protect users' rights (privacy, service, redress) and give businesses legal safeguards. Violating them can lead to fines, lawsuits, or bans.
