12TH•Mathematics•Conic Section•6.4 The Hyperbola

Introduction

Standard equation of a hyperbola, eccentricity e > 1, asymptotes, transverse and conjugate axes.

Introduction

A hyperbola is the locus of a point moving such that the ratio of its distance from a focus to its distance from a directrix is constant e>1e > 1. Equivalently, the absolute difference of distances to two foci is constant: ∣PF1−PF2∣=2a|PF_1 - PF_2| = 2a.

Discuss theoretical concepts, mathematical formulas, and architectural foundations.
