Introduction

Standard equation of an ellipse, eccentricity e < 1, major and minor axes, foci, vertices, and directrices.

Introduction

An ellipse is the locus of a point that moves such that the ratio of its distance from a focus to its distance from a directrix is a constant e<1e < 1 (eccentricity). Equivalently, it is the set of points where the sum of distances to two foci is constant: PF1+PF2=2aPF_1 + PF_2 = 2a.
