Solution

Resolve into partial fractions: $\dfrac{x+1}{(x-1)^2}$

Solution

Let:

x+1(x−1)2=Ax−1+B(x−1)2\frac{x+1}{(x-1)^2}=\frac{A}{x-1}+\frac{B}{(x-1)^2}

Multiply by (x−1)2(x-1)^2:

x+1=A(x−1)+Bx+1=A(x-1)+B

Put x=1x=1:

2=B2=B

Compare coefficients of xx:

1=A1=A

Hence:

x+1(x−1)2=1x−1+2(x−1)2\boxed{\frac{x+1}{(x-1)^2}=\frac{1}{x-1}+\frac{2}{(x-1)^2}}
