16.4 Electrical Resistivity

Resistivity, effect of temperature on resistance, thermistors, and LDRs.

16.4 Electrical Resistivity

The opposition to the flow of electric current is called resistance. Resistance is directly proportional to the length of the conductor and inversely proportional to its cross-sectional area:

R = ρ L / A

where ρ is the electrical resistivity of the material. The SI unit of resistivity is the ohm-metre (Ω m).

Discuss theoretical concepts, mathematical formulas, and architectural foundations.
