Introduction

Populations and samples, sampling distributions and standard error, and the central limit theorem.

Introduction

We almost never see the whole population — all users, all images, all future data. We see a sample and use it to estimate population quantities. The key question is: how much would our estimate change if we drew a different sample? The answer comes from sampling distributions and the central limit theorem, the foundation of confidence intervals, A/B tests and error bars on model accuracy.
