Introduction

The subspace test, examples and non-examples in the plane, and why null spaces are always subspaces.

Introduction

A subspace is a smaller vector space living inside a bigger one — like a plane through the origin inside 3-D space. Subspaces are everywhere in ML: PCA looks for a low-dimensional subspace that captures the data, and the set of solutions to Ax=0A\mathbf{x} = \mathbf{0} is a subspace.
