Introduction

The definition of eigenvalues and eigenvectors, how to compute them, eigenspaces, and their geometric meaning.

Introduction

Most vectors change direction when a matrix acts on them. A few special ones don't — they only get stretched or shrunk. These are eigenvectors, and the stretch factors are eigenvalues. They reveal the "natural axes" of a transformation and are behind PCA, Google's PageRank, the stability of training dynamics, and spectral clustering.
