2.1.1 TCP vs UDP

TCP retransmits and orders. UDP does not. HTTP and gRPC ride TCP (HTTP/3 uses QUIC over UDP).

Why it matters

Games, voice, and some telemetry want UDP. Banks want TCP (or QUIC with reliability).

How it is used

Default to TCP/HTTP. Use UDP when you will handle loss yourself. Open firewalls knowingly — UDP amplification is a DDoS classic.
