7.3 Thermometers
Our sense of touch can tell us whether an object is hot or cold. It gives an idea about the object's temperature, but we cannot measure the actual temperature of the body just by touching it. For the exact measurement of the hotness of a substance, we require an instrument called a thermometer.
Thermometers use some property of a substance that changes appreciably with the change of temperature.
