9TH•Mathematics•Mathematical Reasoning•8.1 Logic, Statements and Proof

Students' Learning Outcomes

Statements, logical operators, theorems, conjectures, axioms, and deductive proofs.

Students' Learning Outcomes

At the end of the unit, the students will be able to:

  • Understand a mathematical statement and its proof
  • Differentiate between an axiom, conjecture and theorem.
  • Formulate simple deductive proofs [algebraic proofs that require showing the LHS to be equal to the RHS. e.g., showing (x−3)2+5=x2−6x+14(x - 3)^2 + 5 = x^2 - 6x + 14]

Discuss theoretical concepts, mathematical formulas, and architectural foundations.
