Quadratic functions are not one-to-one on all R\mathbb{R}.

To find an inverse, restrict the domain to one side of the vertex (often x≥hx\ge h or x≤hx\le h), then:

  • Write y=f(x)y=f(x)
  • Swap xx and yy
  • Solve for yy (choose the correct branch)

The domain of f−1f^{-1} equals the range of ff, and the range of f−1f^{-1} equals the domain of ff.
