2.3 Graph of the Square Root Function

Domain, range, and graph of a square root function with a worked example.

2.3 Graph of the Square Root Function

Example 10

Graph the square root function y=2x+1y = 2\sqrt{x} + 1.

Solution

The domain of y=2x+1y = 2\sqrt{x} + 1 is x≥0x \ge 0, since the square root of a negative number is not real. The range is y≥1y \ge 1.

xxy=2x+1y = 2\sqrt{x} + 1
