Solution

How does copyright differ from patent protection?

Solution

A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention—a product or process that offers a new way of doing something or a new technical solution. It stops others from making, using, or selling the invention without permission (for example, a more efficient solar panel).

Copyright protects literary and artistic works such as books, music, films, paintings, and software. It gives the creator the exclusive right to use, distribute, and license the work and to stop others from copying it without permission (for example, a Pakistani author's novel).

So patents protect inventions and technical solutions, while copyrights protect creative works rather than inventions.
