10.5 Evaporation

Evaporation is a natural process by which a liquid changes into a gas at its surface without boiling. It occurs at all temperatures but is faster at higher temperatures. This change occurs at the surface of the liquid, where some particles have enough energy to escape into the air as vapour. Evaporation does not require the entire liquid to be heated; it can occur at room temperature. For instance, when water is spilled on the floor, it gradually disappears as it turns into water vapour.
